My turning point
An sidebar interview with Jim Sanders, secretary of the Van Buren Rescue Mission
"Working with Frank Turner has been a turning point in my life," says Jim Sanders, secretary of the Van Buren Rescue Mission. "Being confined to a wheel chair with a handicap, it would be easy to dwell on the negative. I've always worked and tried not to do that, but working at the Mission has opened my eyes to where I could have been."
Jim was handicapped at the age of three-and-a-half as a result of Polio. "I have known Frank for about twenty-eight years and have done volunteer work with him off and on for the past three years." Jim says. "I've always been self-supporting, but in January of this year, I came to help with the newsletter, and Frank offered me this job. Seeing people come here and go through the Mission, get a job, and move on has been very helpful to me. I believe God puts us in a certain place for a certain time, and I know God put me here. I see people in all kinds of situations, and it has made me very thankful for what I have."
