Christmas 2000 Ice Storm

Tree limb punctures roof and ceiling
Ed Stinson of Poteau shares photos, details

Ed Stinson of Poteau shared photos of a tree limb that punctured the roof and ceiling of his home during the recent ice storm. "We heard limbs falling on the house all night," Ed says. "When we got up that morning, the tree limb was sticking through the ceiling in the utility room next door to the same rrom where we had been sleeping."

It was one of the limbs in the photo to the right that pierced Ed's ceiling.

A pine tree uprooted in Ed's back yard and snapped an electric line going to Ed's house. He and his wife stayed in their home one night with only a bathroom heater for warmth. "The house stayed 55 to 60 degrees with the heater," Ed says. After the first night they stayed with his son. They were without power for 11 days, from December 26th to January 5th.

"We were the only ones in our neighborhood without power," Ed says. "That's why it took so long for them to get our power back on."
